From Piazza XX Settembre we walk along the lakefront for 1.3 km to a gas station, where we cross the road to take the right side and turn onto the coplanar road. At the crossroads we go right up an Abbadia street, which we leave at the first bend to take a small stair that leads us onto the path, that we walk for a few meters until a fork where we turn left.
We walk for a kilometre along the embankment built as a barrier to prevent boulders and landslides from falling from the side of San Martino Mount, until we reach a crossroads where we turn left to go down the steps that takes us to a paved road, that we take to the right. We cross the ground of a restaurant, that we skirt on the left to reach the beginning of the trail that climbs steeply through the woods, toward the climbing walls, to a “y” fork where we take the new path to Abbadia Lariana.
The path goes up and down the slopes of Mount Coltignone, in parallel to the motorway; we walk for about three kilometres until we cross the SS 36 at the opening of a tunnel. We overcome the difference in height thanks to metal steps, to go down towards the lake and go up again shortly after. Finally, we reach the church of San Martino, at the beginning of the town of Abbadia Lariana, where the first stage ends.
If we want to get to the train station and the historic centre of Abbadia Lariana, we can continue on the Sentiero del Viandante and turn left onto Via Onedo. Once arrived on Via Nazionale we turn right and, after 100 meters, on the right we can find the train station, while going straight on we reach the historic centre.
